Calculate invoice GST
Enter the taxable value and select within-state or inter-state supply to see the correct tax-head split.
GST rate slabs in this HSN finder
The active principal goods schedules represented in this searchable dataset include the following combined GST rates. CGST is ordinarily half the displayed combined rate, with the remaining half charged as SGST or UTGST for an intra-state supply.
Important: separate exemption, nil-rate, service and special-rate notifications can create additional outcomes outside these principal schedules.
What is an HSN code under GST?
HSN stands for Harmonised System of Nomenclature. Goods are organised by chapter, heading, sub-heading and tariff item: the first two digits identify the chapter, four digits identify the heading, six digits narrow the sub-heading, and eight digits can identify a detailed tariff item.
Correct classification depends on the tariff description, product composition, intended use, exclusions and relevant notification conditions. Searching only a broad heading without reading its description can produce an incorrect GST result.
Why the same HSN can have different GST rates
HSN 3401 illustrates the distinction: specified toilet soap can be covered at 5%, while other specified soap and surface-active products are listed at 18%. HSN 7102 similarly distinguishes rough or simply sawn diamonds at 0.25% from other covered diamond entries at 1.5%.
CGST and SGST versus IGST
For a normal intra-state taxable supply, an 18% goods entry is ordinarily shown as 9% CGST and 9% SGST or UTGST. For the corresponding inter-state supply, the calculator shows 18% IGST. Place of supply, exemptions, special valuation rules and transaction-specific exceptions must still be checked.
Frequently asked questions
How do I search for an HSN code and GST rate?
Enter a product name such as rice, ghee, cement, gold jewellery or mobile phone, or type a 2-, 4-, 6- or 8-digit HSN code. Choose the matching goods description to see its GST rate, CGST, SGST or IGST and invoice calculation.
Does one HSN code always have a single GST rate?
No. One heading can contain multiple descriptions with different rates, exclusions or conditions. For example, HSN 3401 has separate specified soap entries at 5% and 18%, while HSN 7102 distinguishes rough diamonds at 0.25% from other covered diamonds at 1.5%.
What is the GST rate on gold jewellery and gold?
The specified precious-metal jewellery entry under HSN 7113 and the specified gold entry under HSN 7108 are included at 3% total GST, subject to the correct goods description and applicable transaction treatment.
What is the GST rate on rice?
The rate schedule includes pre-packaged and labelled rice under HSN 1006 at 5%. This entry should not be treated as a blanket conclusion for unpackaged rice or supplies governed by separate exemption notifications.
How does the calculator split CGST, SGST and IGST?
For a normal intra-state supply, the displayed total GST rate is split equally between CGST and SGST or UTGST. For a normal inter-state supply, the corresponding total rate is shown as IGST.
Why do some products show 40% GST instead of 28%?
The amended principal goods notification places specified aerated beverages, certain passenger vehicles, pan masala and specified tobacco products in the 40% GST schedule. The former 28% Schedule VII for those tobacco and pan-masala entries was omitted by a later official amendment.
Are GST exemptions, services and every special-rate notification included?
No. This finder covers goods entries in the principal GST goods notification together with two verified amendments. Separate exemption or nil-rate notifications, SAC-based services, special-rate notifications such as some brick entries, compensation cess, valuation rules and subsequent changes require independent verification.
Can I calculate GST on an invoice amount?
Yes. Select the correct HSN description, enter the taxable invoice value, and choose intra-state or inter-state supply. The tool calculates the applicable GST amount, tax-head split and invoice total.
Can I download the HSN and GST calculation?
Yes. Select Print / PDF and use your browser's Save as PDF option. The print view excludes search inputs and buttons and retains the selected HSN classification and tax calculation report.
